The business’s stores present a quality chocolate boutique image, reminiscent of traditional European chocolate houses. The sophisticated branding and packaging reinforce the business’s artisan reputation and product integrity. Prior to 1985, the two brothers owned and operated a candy business that specialised in traditional boiled sweets. After observing the market, they decided to enter the niche segment of high-quality chocolates. Following in-depth research, international travel, and training in New York, they developed the concept and opened their first chocolate store in Claremont in 1985. The original candy operation was sold to focus solely on chocolate manufacturing and retail.
Initially, the older brother managed finances, retail, wholesale, and marketing, while the younger brother focused on manufacturing, product development, packaging, procedures, distribution, and was also involved in marketing. In 2006, after the older brother fell ill, the younger brother took over full ownership and all operational responsibilities.
To manage the expanded workload, he developed new Excel-based systems covering costings, manufacturing, seasonal planning (e.g., Christmas and Easter), and improved both office and retail systems (including POS and website upgrades).
The business also launched a second brand, Choclovers, which has broadened the product range and is now sold through an appointed distributor.
Operations continue from the original premises, though there is a long-term vision to relocate to a larger facility that would serve as both a manufacturing hub and a tourist attraction, offering public viewing of the chocolate-making process and an on-site retail experience.
